Vegetation analysis of seed stands on three areas concession in East Kalimantan

The problem frequently occurs in the activities of silvicultural systems in Indonesian Selective Logging (TPTI) is the availability of seeds. Procurement of quality seed through the application of seed stand is one of the appropriate methods to ensure the accessibility of high-quality seeds and seedlings at large quantity in the orchard. This study aimed to collect information on species diversity, dominance type, stand structure, and density of the mother plant as part of basic construction in seed stands. The research was conducted in three concessions in East Kalimantan, namely PT. Sumalindo Lestari Jaya II Site Long Bagun (logged forest), PT. INHUTANI Labanan (primary forest), and PT. INHUTANI II Sub Unit Malinau (primary forest). The result showed that the highest density in PT. Sumalindo Lestari Jaya II Site Long Bagun seed stands plot is dominated by Shorea bracteolata (NPJ = 67.93%), S. leprosula (58.40%) and S. acuminatissima (47.38%). The highest density in PT. INHUTANI I Labanan seed stand plot is dominated by S. laevis (42.48%), S. parvifolia (23.79%) and S. pauciflora (21.91%). The highest density in PT. INHUTANI II Sub Unit Malinau seed stand plot is dominated by S. parvifolia (31.95%), S. leprosula (29.83%) and Dipterocarps cornutus (18.67%). In general, the diameter of prevalent trees at 3 seed stands plot is 30 to 69.9 cm and under the class of Dipterocarpaceace, and the number of species decreases with increasing of diameter. Area of seed stand PT. Sumalindo Lestari Jaya II Site Long Bagun occupies mother tree density of 3 trees/ha with basal area of 0.011 m2 /ha. While, area of seed stand PT. INHUTANI I Labanan holds mother plant density of 11 trees/ha with basal area of 0.028 m2 /ha and the area of seed stand PT. INHUTANI I Labanan has mother plant density of 10 trees/ha with basal area of 0.036 m2 /ha.
