Abstract

Management of biological resources of plants in agroforestry system play an important role as a source of food, pharmaceuticals, fuel wood and timber wood, and people develop to facilitate their needs. The research aims to determine the management of biological resources on Kaliwu agroforestry system and its contribution to the community needs on Sumba island. The research was conducted on 70 units of households in Central Sumba regency, East Nusa Tenggara. Interview and observation methods are used, descriptive-quantitative of the data analysis. The results showed that biological resources management in Kaliwu agroforestry system has a role as a source of timber wood with an average of 82.86% contribution to community needs. This indicates the independence of community needs and reducing pressure on forests. It was concluded that management of biological resources in Kaliwu agroforestry system serves as one source of timber wood that meets the community needs.
