Abstract

Priadi D, Hartati NS. 2015. Viability and in vitro shoot multiplication of plus seed of sengon (Paraserianthes falcataria) of fresh and 4-years storage seed. Pros Sem Nas Masy Biodiv Indon 1: 1516-1519. The availability of quality seeds strongly supports the productivity of the forestry sector as well as for re-vegetation of marginal lands. Sengon (Paraserianthes falcataria L. Nielsen) is one of forestry plant species has a potency to be developed as a source of seed. Superior forestry seedlings can be obtained from the mother plant of a superior tree. In this study, the seedlings were developed in vitro from the seeds collected from the superior tree as explants source. In vitro germination of fresh seed compared with the seeds stored for four years in the refrigerator. Results showed that in vitro germination of fresh seeds was 92.08%, while the seed stored for 4 years was 90% or was decreased by 2.08%. Multiplication rate within 3 months using stem segments explants from fresh seed was 2.1 times, while the explants from the seeds stored for 4 years was 4.8 times. Production of quality sengon seeds in vitro is expected to support the provision of seeds with a faster time.
