Abstract
Abstract. Nugroho HA, Maharani S, Widyastuti A. 2019. Hematological values of Black Caped Lory (Lorius lory Lin, 1758): As a basic data for captive breeding health management. Pros Sem Nas Masy Biodiv Indon 5: 29-32. Hematological values commonly used as health assesment parameters in avian medicine. However, the availability of hematological datas of wild and exotic birds are still minimal. The aim of this study was to obtain some of the hematological value of Black Caped Lory. The obtained data can be used as references for physiology study and medical purposes as in captive breeding health management. Seven Black Caped Lories that physically healthy were used for this research. Blood samples were taken from pectoral vein. The samples were examined for hematological value using Hemotology Analyzer (Rayto™). The following results were obtained (mean ± standard deviation): leucosyte count: 159,35 ±16,93 x103/µL; red blood cell count: 3,92 ± 0,39 x106/µL; haemoglobin: 18 ± 2,38 g/dL; MCHC: 39,10 ± 1,85 g/dL; MCH: 46,40 ± 2,78 pg; MCV: 118,70 ± 1,86 Fl; PCV: 45,90 ± 4,81%; trombocyte: 13,00 ± 12,46 x103/µL. Compared with other parrots, the results showed much higher values for leukocyte count. Meanwhile, the other hematological parameters showed that the values were in the closely similiar ranges. The result we provided, could not represent the general hematological values for this species due to the minimal sample size. Larger sample number was required for validation.
