Abstract
Lestari D, Asih NPS. 2015. Management of Eka Karya Bali Botanic Garden’s seed bank. Pros Sem Nas Masy Biodiv Indon 1: 515-520. Global biodiversity is decline significantly. This occurs due to pressure or changes in plant populations, increasing human population, and its needs, plant breeding programs that resulted in genetic uniformity and landform changes that causing habitat destruction. The seed bank is one of the conservation methods that considered as the most efficient because it does not require a large space, a relatively longer storage time, the more amount of diversity that being conserved and facilitate the provision of genetic products. Seed bank of Eka Karya Botanic Garden, Bali has been initiated since 2006, thus, it is necessary to review its management, what its activities and how the results were obtained. The study was conducted by observation and literature. The results showed that the seed bank of Eka Karya Botanic Garden activity was limited to process orthodox seed from their plant's collection, storing the seeds that resistant to drying (orthodox), characterizing the seed storage through the germination test and restocking when its number was low or when its viability was declining. The seed bank management was still far from expected conditions. This was due to limited resources and the limited quantity and quality of its administrators.
